Orillion Advances Environmentally Safe Rat Bait
A rat specific bait with negligible environmental and non-target impacts is at the end of an
extensive development cycle and is being readied for market introduction. Orillion, the trading
name of a company owned by the New Zealand Government has a long-standing pedigree in
successful removal of rodents and other invasive pests. The company’s Chief Executive,
William McCook is part of the Vietnam Trade Mission led by New Zealand’s Prime Minister, The
Right Honourable Christopher Luxon in early 2025.
The opportunity will showcase Orillion’s existing bait products as well as introducing the
environmentally responsible rat bait which can make significant financial and environmental
improvements in food production, conservation, home and commercial infrastructure
protection. Orillion has formed a subsidiary company Pest Control Innovations Limited which is
dedicated to commercialisation of this new technology.
Orillion is a global leader with its highly palatable bait products used for removal and
elimination of rodents from small to large landscape areas and islands including important
ecological havens with endangered birds and invertebrates. Bait products have been
successfully used in areas ranging from the Galapagos to the Sub-Antarctic region and are
sought after by experts for rodent removal in a range of countries. Using decades of experience
in bait palatability and developing products that stand up to harsh conditions while staying
palatable, along with extensive research assistance, Orillion has developed a fast-acting
‘wonder bait’. It is not only rat-specific, it’s very fast acting and has no negative residue issues.

significantly improve crop yields, prevent disease and ensure more sustainable farming
practices. This leading New Zealand-based research will allow a meaningful step-change in
